Nuestra historia

Sant Francesc d’Assís  (Franciscanes Universitat) is  an institution more than one hundred years old. It was founded in 1874.

The school, in Plaça Universitat 2,  was built by Elies Rogent i Amat, the same architect who also designed the historical building of the  University of Barcelona which is situated in the same square.

Anna Ravell , founder of the order of the Franciscanes Missioneres , was also the founder of the school. She was a pioneer in promoting education for girls at a time in history when there were very few schools for  girls to  be educated. That is  the reason why this school, at  the begining, was only for girls.

For long time  girls could study both  Primary and High School levels.  Through the years, and ir order to adapt  itself  to the new situations,  our center has changed alot. Nowadays  it  schools both girls and boys of Kindergarten and Primary Education.
